The idea of creating a Duo was conceived by the Pochekin brothers at a very young age. They grew up in a violin-centric family and, since their early childhood, a close musical connection was established between both brothers.
This is how Mikhail talks about this: “ ... Between us there has never been competition, but only mutual support. It has always been so since our early childhood. We are glad that we are together ... "
The Duo debut took place in 2011, when the brothers performed with the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra on the stage of the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. “ … We are constantly expanding our joint repertoire, and this was the initial reason for me to start playing the viola as well …”, Ivan says in an interview.
Initially, their repertoire included only works for two violins, but after Ivan also mastered playing the viola, the brothers had the opportunity to include many new pieces in their concerts. Today in their programs there are works written from the Baroque era to the composers of our day, including Mozart's “Sinfonia Concertante”, Bruch’s "Double Concerto" or Krzysztof Penderecki's “Concerto doppio”.
In 2018, the "Melodiya" label released the Pochekin brothers's debut album entitled “Unity of Opposites”, a name that says a lot about their creative charisma. The CD includes duets for violin and viola by W.A. Mozart and Michael Haydn, as well as pieces for two violins: Sonata by S. Prokofiev op. 56 and 12 duets by Reinhold Glière.
Among the next projects of the Duo are joint performances with the Russian National Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia "Evgeny Svetlanov", as well as a CD recording with the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, which will include Mozart's "Sinfonia Concertante".
